I often hear from people who are concerned that they are going to
have challenges on the Medifast diet. They will often tell me that they
don't have any willpower. Or they will say that previous diets haven't
worked. They will tell me that they are confused about how the diet
works or when and how they are supposed to eat. Common comments are
things like: "I have some friends who have had good results on Medifast,
but I'm worried that it will be too hard or too confusing for me. I
have tried many diets and I have failed at them all. I usually start out
OK but then I get overwhelmed at keeping track of everything or I get
bored. Is this diet a huge challenge?" I will address these questions in

<strong>Why I Don't Find Medifast As Difficult As Previous Diets:</strong>
Understand that what I'm about to tell you is only my opinion. Everyone
has their own. But honestly, to me, Medifast is the easiest diet that
I've been on. The main reason for this is that there just isn't very
much to figure out. You never have to count calories or keep track of
carbs or proteins. You don't really need to keep track of what you have
eaten because all of the meals have roughly the same amounts of calories
and carbs. All you really need to do is to eat five of the meals that
they send you and eat one main meal (called the lean and green) that you
make yourself or you can use frozen food or food from a restaurant. The
main criteria for the lean and green is that it is lean protein and low
glycemic vegetables. It is just not that difficult. You can make a soup
or stir fry. You can have lean protein and a side of two vegetables.
Or, you can do a one pot meal. It's very easy to find recipes for this.
You can even use frozen foods if you are careful about your choices.<br />
I
also actually really like eating six times per day even though in the
beginning this was one of my biggest reservations. I just didn't think I
could fit all those meals in. But what I didn't realize is that they
are small, prepackaged meals. It's no big deal to have a bar on the go
or to just unwrap a straw and have a shake. I mean, if you can unwrap or
microwave a food item, then this is really all that you are required to
do for most of the time. Also, I really liked that I wasn't required to
weigh or check in, although help and counselor was available if I
wanted it. And no, no one monitors your exercise, but it is encouraged
if you want to do it. And they do provide you with free resources for
it.<br />
One of the things that I find the most helpful about this diet
is that the support. The main website has tons of blogs and forums
where people can support one another or just share their experiences. It
took a while before I was comfortable commenting, but just reading
about other people's experiences and even triumphs was a huge help. So I
guess my response to this person's concerns is that I don't find
Medifast very difficult. But if you do, there is a lot of support and
people willing to help with any challenges that you might have.<br />

I'm often asked about the sweets allowed on the Medifast diet.
People are often particularly interested in which taste the best and
which are the most filling or satisfying. Before I tell you my opinion, I
also have to tell you that there are plenty of this diet's meals that I
have eaten when I had a sweet craving or wanted a dessert. Examples of
things I particularly like are the oatmeals, many of the bars, and even
the pancakes. However, since most people want to know specifically about
desserts, I will only be discussing items that were meant only to be
desserts, with the understanding that you are not limited to only these.
Many of the foods on this diet offer sweet tasting options.<br />
<strong>My First Pick: The Chocolate Chip Soft Bake:</strong>
This is a new item on the menu. It kind of has the softer and more
chewy consistency of the brownie, but it tastes like a chocolate chip
cookie and it is a little larger than a regular cookie and more like the
size of a brownie. It's kind of hard to believe that it's only 110
calories with only 7 grams of sugar. It also contains 4 grams of fiber
and 11 grams of protein. So not only does it satisfy your sweet tooth,
it is also pretty filling. As of this writing, this is my favorite food
that's considered a true dessert.<br />
<strong>My Second Pick: The Soft Serve:</strong>
Before Medifast introduced their soft serve ice cream, many of us used
to actually freeze the shakes in order to have a sweet and cold dessert.
I've even frozen them in those popsicle shaped molds with great
success. However, as well as that process worked (and still does,) it's
nice not to have to wait for the freezing process. Not only that, but
this item has a very nice creamy texture that you just can't accomplish
by freezing the shakes. It also offers some interesting flavors like
coffee and peanut butter. (Combining the chocolate mint flavor with the
peanut butter makes for a delightful combination.) The nutritional
content for this is similar to the soft bake, which is 110 calories.<br />
<strong>Next Up, The Brownie:</strong>
I really like the brownie but I chose the chocolate chip soft bake over
it because I like the fact that the soft back has a combination of a
cookie and chocolate taste. The brownie is all chocolate. And while I
love chocolate, I find that I usually chose this item if I am having a
severe chocolate craving whereas the previous items work in most all
situations. Not only is this item chocolate flavored, but it has
chocolate chips too, so it's like getting a double dose.<br />
<strong>Finally, The Puddings:</strong>
The last dessert I will mention is the puddings. I actually really like
them and am probably only listing them last because I have been eating
them the longest. All of the above items are newer items on the menu
whereas the pudding has been around for a while. Still, I find it an
almost daily staple. It's also very flexible as I sometimes use the dry
pudding mix to make other baked goods. I particularly like the banana
flavor as many of the other desserts listed above don't have a banana
option.<br />
